MAD Couture Challenge 2013

The models of the Third Thursday MAD Couture Challenge were let loose on the streets of Mill Avenue once again for the annual event Thursday, April 18th, 2013, rocking creative looks assembled from the likes of brochures, gift cards, plastic and candy from local businesses. Where better for a model to get ready for a fashionable strut down Mill than Tempe’s one-stop-shop for all things beauty, Mood Swings Salon & Skin Spa!

Mood Swings Salon & Skin Spa Tempe put in our 2-creative-cents for the event by giving the models a variety of hairstyles and makeup looks to match the designs.

Advanced I Stylist Alexandra created a side-swept-do on model and designer Taylor, pinning the curled hair to fall over her left shoulder and set in place with AVEDA Air Control Hairspray, for a controlled but light hold for flowing curls. The look was completed with a strong berry lip, by using AVEDA Nourishing-Mint Lip Liner and Smoothing Lip color.

Here is our talented Aesthetician Mia applying makeup to one of the Mad Couture Models. She created a Smokey Eye with the AVEDA Petal Essence Eye Color Trio, Black Tulip topped off with the AVEDA Mosscara Thickening Mascara in Black Forest, AVEDA’s darkest mascara color for a dramatic effect.

To Tighten and Enhance Curls Try a Twist Set

1. Finger-comb be curly style prep generously through damp hair.  Follow by applying be curly curl enhancer evenly throughout hair.

2. Twist hair in small sections around your finger, until the curl wraps around itself.  Spray with new be curly curl enhancing hair spray to set.

3. Diffuse your hair dry by letting hair rest on the diffuser.  Keep motion at a minimum to help reduce frizz.

4. Finger-style gently and finish by spraying be curly curl enhancing hair spray.

Loosen and Control Curls

How to loosen and control curls with Be Curly’s NEW Curl Controller:

1. Finger-comb Be Curly Style Prep through damp hair.  Then, distribute new Be Curly Curly Controller evenly throughout hair.

2. Braid hair in small sections with a light touch to create a loose, flat braid for a longer, natural looking finished curl.  Secure braids with elastic.

3. Blow-dry braids downward, moving from roots to ends.  Allow braids to cool completely and unravel them, finger-styling as you go.

RED DAHLIA

“Cat-shaped contouring elongates the eyes, while feminine colors and soft blending keep the look sophisticated.” -Janell Geason, Aveda Artistic Director, Makeup

  • Eyes: Apply bittersweet petal essence single eye color to lid from lash to the crease.  Contour lid from outer to inner corner in night iris eye color, and brush night iris along outer 2/3 of bottom lash line.  Softly wing out the contour to create a cat shape, and diffuse the contour edges with bittersweet eye color.  Smudge brown velvet rose eye color along outer 2/3 of upper and bottom lash lines for definition.  Highlight inner corners with callalily eye color.  Curl lashes, apply earth mosscara and fill in the brows.
  • Face/Lips: Create luminous skin with inner light mineral tinted moisture spf 15.  Highlight cheekbones with callalily eye color, contour with peach lights petal essence face accents.  Accent apples of cheeks with plum touch face accents.  Prep lips with nourish-mint renewing lip treatment smoothing lip color.  Add a touch of shine at the center of the lips with star dahlia nourish-mint rehydrating lip glaze.
